Background

The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation is dedicated to preserving the memory of Corinne Schillings, who lost her life in the Baltimore Water Taxi accident on March 6, 2004.  Corinne believed strongly in higher education for women and in learning about various cultures through the study of languages. 

 

Purpose

The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation supports college women in learning about other cultures through the study of languages. 

 

Mission

            To provide financial assistance to young women who are pursuing college degrees in the study of languages, or who are studying in a foreign country as enrichment for their college program; and, to encourage Girl Scout staff training that incorporates the study of language leading to a better understanding of cultural differences.

 

Goal

            To award, annually and on an on-going basis, Scholarships to Study a Foreign Language and Scholarships to Study Abroad.

            To support training of Girl Scout staff in pursuit of cultural understanding through the use of languages.

 

Not-for-Profit

The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation for educational and charitable purposes as outlined in the Internal Revenue Code, Section 501(c)(3),  and chartered as a not-for-profit corporation in Cook County, State of Illinois.
